Proud. I am proud to have captured the essence of Kanata Richardson and grateful to have been lucky enough to help record her place in history. At just 17, she is making her mark and making history as the first female wrestling champion in the state of Michigan. Goosebumps, writing that just now and I haven’t even gotten to the good stuff. In a word, she is FIERCE. She embodies strength, resilience, and an unapologetic spirit even after navigating life's challenges and overcoming multiple injuries. She is bold, passionate, and powerful, while also humble, kind and understated. She is choosing individuality, challenging societal norms and creating her own destiny. The photographs for her feature show the multi-dimensional facets that are possible for a young woman to be many things and follow what her heart desires. Everyone’s heard of #ProudMama, and today I’m #ProudPhotographer of this girl.
